Never Miss a Health Appointment: Effective Calendar Management
An appointment record is the single list you check instead of four. The post puts the load at 20 to 30 medical appointments a year for the average family once your own check-ups, the children's visits, dental cleanings, eye exams and specialist follow-ups are counted, and it names the cost of missing one as delayed diagnoses, wasted time and cancellation fees. The cost is real. Its advice is to centralise, book the routine ones early in the year and prepare before each visit. LifeWell's appointments page holds only the things you have to turn up to. The calendar holds everything else.
The Appointment Juggling Act
Between your own checkups, your children's pediatric visits, dental cleanings, eye exams, and specialist appointments, the average family manages 20-30 medical appointments per year. Missing these appointments has real consequences: delayed diagnoses, wasted time, and cancellation fees.
Building an Appointment System
Centralize Everything
Stop tracking appointments across sticky notes, multiple calendars, and memory. Use one system as your source of truth. LifeWell's appointment feature centralizes all health appointments for every family member in one view.
Schedule Preventive Care in Advance
At the beginning of each year, schedule routine appointments:
For adults:
- Annual physical exam
- Dental cleaning (every 6 months)
- Eye exam (annually)
- Dermatologist skin check (annually)
- Any specialist follow-ups
For children:
- Well-child visits (frequency varies by age)
- Dental visits (every 6 months after first tooth)
- Vision screening
- Immunization appointments
Set Multiple Reminders
One reminder is not enough. Set up:
- 1 week before: Time to prepare questions and arrange transportation
- 1 day before: Final reminder to confirm
- 2 hours before: Time to leave, accounting for travel
Prepare for Each Visit
Before each appointment, prepare:
- List of current medications and dosages
- Questions or concerns to discuss
- Recent health data from LifeWell (weight, blood pressure, symptoms)
- Insurance information
Tracking Appointments in LifeWell
The appointment feature helps you:
- Add appointments with date, time, provider, and location
- Set custom reminders at intervals you choose
- Link to family members so you can view each person's schedule
- Add notes before and after visits to track recommendations
- View upcoming appointments in a clean calendar view
After the Appointment
The appointment follow-through is just as important as showing up:
- Record key information immediately: new medications, dosage changes, follow-up instructions
- Schedule follow-up appointments before leaving the office
- Update your medication tracker if anything changed
- Log any new vitals taken during the visit
- Share relevant information with family members who need to know
Family Coordination
When managing appointments for multiple family members:
- Color-code by family member for quick visual scanning
- Check for conflicts when scheduling to avoid double-booking yourself as the driver
- Designate a backup person who can take a family member if you are unavailable
- Keep insurance cards and health information for each family member organized and accessible
A well-organized appointment system reduces stress and ensures everyone in your family receives timely preventive care and follow-up treatment.

What people use it for
Add the appointment and who it is with
Add the appointment and who it is with. If they are already in your people or your professionals the two are linked, and the clinic's number is then on their page when you need to move it.
Build the prepare list before the visit: what to take
Build the prepare list before the visit: what to take, what to ask and the question you will not remember once you are in the room.
Export the readings from that list so the numbers comeβ¦
Export the readings from that list so the numbers come with you rather than being described from memory.
Write what was said into a note
Write what was said into a note at `/notes` while it is fresh. Editing an appointment, and writing it up afterwards, are not built yet, and the detail dialog says so rather than offering a field that is not there.
Leave medicines
Leave medicines, birthdays and cycle days out of it, because they are not appointments and they live in the calendar, where one day holds all of them at once.
Questions
Does LifeWell book appointments for me?
No. It did not book any of them and cannot change one, which the page says above the list rather than in a footnote. Moving an appointment means telephoning whoever holds it and then changing the date here yourself. The clinic's number is on the professional's page if you linked them when you added it. The telephone is still the mechanism.
How do the reminders work?
You ask for one when you add the appointment, and it arrives on the device you asked on. Quiet hours hold reminders rather than dropping them, so one that falls at 2am is waiting for you afterwards. A browser cannot wake itself at a set time, so on the web it waits in your inbox; the Android app puts it on the phone clock.
What belongs in the calendar rather than here?
Medicines, birthdays and cycle days, all of which appear in the calendar and never in the appointments list. The split is deliberate: the calendar tells you what is on a day, and the appointments page tells you how ready you are for the next thing you have to turn up to.
Who can see the prepare list?
Only you. Nothing on it is sent to the clinic, and ticking an item is not a message to anybody. An unticked item is not a failure and nothing is counted, so the ring beside it goes back down again when you untick something. It exists so that the list is not in your head on the morning.
What if my appointments do not load?
Nothing has been lost, and the error says exactly that, because a list that fails to load reads to a worried person like a list that has been emptied. They are still on the device and still in the calendar, and any reminder you set will still arrive. Trying again is the whole remedy.
Can I keep a family member's appointments too?
An appointment records who it is with and shows that name beside it in the list. What the page does not do is split into a separate schedule for each person. Everything sits in one list, nearest first, which is what keeps the next thing findable rather than filed behind somebody's name.
