LifeWell app permissions
This page lists every device permission the LifeWell app asks for. In this release that is three, all of them Android "normal" permissions granted at install without a dialogue and none of them refusable, because Android never asks: internet access, whether the device is currently online, and the advertising identifier. The first two reveal nothing about you. The third is declared rather than used — nothing in this release reads it, and this page is where that would change. Nothing else is requested — no location of any precision, no contacts, no camera or microphone, no broad access to your photos, and no SMS or call logs. Each of those was checked against the app's manifest and its installed components rather than against an intention.
Questions
What permissions does the LifeWell Android app need?
Three. Internet access, and permission to see whether the device is online so a change made offline can be queued rather than failing — both reveal nothing about you. Then the advertising identifier, which is declared and not read: nothing in this release asks Android for it. All three are Android "normal" permissions, granted at install with no dialogue and not refusable.
Does LifeWell access my contacts?
No. The permission is not in the manifest and no component in the app can request it. People in LifeWell are people you type in.
Does LifeWell use my camera or microphone?
Neither is requested, on Android or on the web, in this release. When attaching a photo arrives it will use the system picker, which hands over the one file you chose and needs no permission at all.
Does LifeWell track my location?
No, at any precision, in the foreground or the background. Nothing in the app asks the device or the browser where you are.
Will LifeWell send me notifications?
Not in this release — nothing in it can post one. Reminders live inside the app and cannot reach you while it is closed. When push arrives it will ask permission behind a switch you turn on, and this page will change with it.
Does LifeWell use the advertising identifier?
The Android build declares the permission for it and nothing in this release reads it. Declaring it at install is the only way an app can read the identifier later at all, so it is declared up front and named on this page rather than arriving quietly in an update. It is not used to target anything, there is no advertising network in the app, and nothing about your record is sold.
How can I check this list is true?
Open Settings, then Apps, then LifeWell, then Permissions on your phone. What Android shows you should match the table on this page. If it does not, that is a defect worth reporting.
Tips
- A permission you were never asked about is one Android grants at install because it treats it as low-risk. There is nothing to refuse, which is why this page lists them rather than asking you to.
- The system photo picker and contact picker need no permission at all, which is why this app asks for neither.
- The list is re-checked before every release: a permission can arrive with a component rather than with a decision.
