LifeWell app permissions
This page lists every device permission the LifeWell app asks for, why it needs it, and what happens if you say no. Four come with a question you can refuse, and each is asked only when you use the thing that needs it: the camera when you tap Take a photo, an approximate position when you tap Use my position on the professionals page, notifications so your own reminders can reach you, and contacts when you press Contacts beside a phone number. Android asks for reading and changing contacts as one permission; LifeWell only reads the one contact you pick and never adds, changes or removes a contact. The rest are granted at install without a question: internet access, whether you are online, starting after a restart to re-arm reminders, waking the phone for a reminder that is due, and the advertising identifier, which is declared and not read. Nothing is read in the background: no position while the app is closed, no microphone, no broad access to your photos, and no SMS or call logs. Each of those was checked against the app's manifest rather than against an intention.

What permissions does the LifeWell Android app need?

Does LifeWell access my contacts?
Only when you press Contacts beside a phone number, and only the one contact you pick: its name and numbers, so the number you choose goes into the field. Android asks for reading and changing contacts as one permission, but LifeWell never adds, changes or removes a contact, and your address book is never uploaded, searched or stored. Say no and you type the number instead.
Does LifeWell use my camera or microphone?
The camera, when you tap Take a photo — to put a photo or a scanned document into your memories or your record. Refuse and you can still pick a file from your device. The microphone is never requested.
Does LifeWell track my location?
No. The professionals page can ask for an approximate position, once, when you tap Use my position, to sort the directory by distance; it is never stored and never read while the app is closed. Nothing else asks where you are.
Will LifeWell send me notifications?
Only your own reminders — medicines, appointments, water — and only if you allow notifications. Refuse and the reminders still show inside the app; they just cannot reach you while it is closed.
Does LifeWell use the advertising identifier?
The Android build declares the permission for it and nothing in this release reads it. Declaring it at install is the only way an app can read the identifier later at all, so it is declared up front and named on this page rather than arriving quietly in an update. It is not used to target anything, there is no advertising network in the app, and nothing about your record is sold.
How can I check this list is true?
Open Settings, then Apps, then LifeWell, then Permissions on your phone. What Android shows you should match the table on this page. If it does not, that is a defect worth reporting.
Tips
- A permission you were never asked about is one Android grants at install because it treats it as low-risk. There is nothing to refuse, which is why this page lists them rather than asking you to.
- Attaching an existing photo uses the system photo picker, which needs no permission, so there is no request for your photo library.
- The list is re-checked before every release: a permission can arrive with a component rather than with a decision.
